The long slopes of Finland's largest ski resort and its unique location between two Lapland villages provide excellent conditions for a successful outdoor day. You have access to the slope areas of both villages, and you can move between them either by skiing through the fell or by using the ski bus.

Varkaankuru shines in a new light

The lighting at Varkaankuru in Ylläs Ski Resort is now complete, bringing new life to one of Ylläs’s most legendary slope areas. Varkaankuru is where the story of Ylläs Ski Resort began nearly 70 years ago – the resort’s very first ski lift once operated here, powered by a Volkswagen engine on the site of today’s Kuruhissi lift.

Thanks to the new lighting, skiing and snowboarding in Varkaankuru is now possible even after dark. The lighting also significantly improves access between the Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi ski areas whenever the lifts to the fell summit are open, weather permitting.

The illuminated area covers the Kuruhissi ascent track as well as several key slopes and connecting routes, enabling safe and smooth travel in both directions. Kuruhissi also operates during evening skiing hours and is open daily from 10:00 to 18:45 during the season (exception: 31 December 10:00–24:00).

The new lighting at Varkaankuru brings together Ylläs’s past, present, and future – offering longer, more immersive skiing days in the resort’s unique fell landscape.

Y1 Restaurants

At Ylläs Ski Resort on the Äkäslompolo side, you’ll find the Y1 Restaurants, which includes Y1 Food Garden, Y1 Ski Pub, and Y1 Café Express, located near the base of the Aurinko-Express chairlift at Aurinkokuru.
