What makes Lapland Hotels' breakfast of northern flavors so popular? How does it differ from other hotel breakfasts? Read why Finns praise this breakfast from north to south.
Rich flavors from the north
The breakfast with northern flavors offers all the elements to start a good day. Alongside traditional breakfast favorites, there are plenty of Lappish flavors: bread cheese, reindeer in various forms, puikula potatoes, and northern fish such as whitefish, pike, and rainbow trout. Northern berries, on the other hand, shine in juices, jams, berry powders, and smoothies. Seasonal variations add their own tasty addition to the diverse offerings.
"Generous breakfast with exotic Nordic delicacies - e.g. spruce sprout shot, porridge, and flatbread were excellent." – Teija
"Wide selection of everything, and nature was nicely included (spruce shoots, blueberry and lingonberry powders, kale pesto..) Super good potato flatbreads and Karelian pies!" – Jenni
Excellent and high-quality Finnish flavors with a tiny fusion twist. Excellent service." –Ville
All hotels may also offer surprising superfoods, such as spruce tips, birch leaves, and lichen. In city hotels, a touch of luxury is added with coffee and tea served at the tables and chef-prepared omelets, which can be filled with options like smoked reindeer or forest mushrooms. In Lapland hotels, fresh waffles are a delightful treat.
Famous porridge
The cornerstone of breakfast at Hotel Bulevardi is the developed Hurmos oatmeal pearl porridge, which has even been titled the best in the world. It often charms even those who usually don't care for porridge. The Hurmos porridge steeps for over 4 hours and is finished with, for example, berry powders, jams, or bread cheese. The beloved porridge is now also available for purchase to take home at the request of customers.
"Breakfast is amazing. The much-praised porridge is indeed good." – Jaana
"Lots of new interesting things to taste. My favorite is, of course, the long-cooked porridge, simply wonderful." – Vessu
"Perfect ten breakfast, especially the porridge which was also gluten-free!" – Tiia
Localness tastes
Local specialties also stand out at breakfast. In Tampere, reindeer blood sausage has been brought to the breakfast table, and in Oulu, tar malt bread is served in honor of the city's tar traditions. In the mountain hotels of Lapland at Pallas, Hetta, Olos, and Kilpisjärvi, guests enjoy honeycomb from Hillasuo, which comes from Pallas hotel's own apiary.
Some of the delicacies come from small producers: mini cinnamon rolls and blueberry pie are provided by Liepuska from Nilsiä, while the beloved potato flatbreads come from Penttilä farm in Pälkäne.
A customer-praised experience
The atmosphere at breakfast is just as important as the flavors. The northern vibe is reflected in the decor, warm service, and hospitality.
"The earthy-toned lighting instantly transports the atmosphere to the side of a Lapland campfire, whether a sunny heatwave or a heavy rainstorm unfolds behind the windows." - Inka
– People come to breakfast to spend time together, hold meetings, or for dates. It is an experience from which people expect a lot nowadays. We have made our breakfast special by offering a tasty and personalized selection, paying attention to really good service, and adding a touch of Lapland mystique, says Lapland Hotels chef Tero Mäntykangas. On weekends, breakfast is available for longer, allowing guests to leisurely enjoy it in a brunch-style setting.
