What makes the northern flavors breakfast at Lapland Hotels so popular? How does it differ from other hotel breakfasts? Read why Finns praise this breakfast from north to south.
Rich flavors from the north
A northern flavors breakfast offers all the elements needed to start a good day. Alongside traditional breakfast favorites, there is an abundance of Lappish flavors: bread cheese, reindeer in various forms, Puikula potatoes, and northern fish such as whitefish, pike, and rainbow trout. Northern berries, in turn, shine in juices, jams, berry powders, and smoothies. Seasonal variations add their own tasty touch to the diverse selection.
"Rich breakfast with exotic Nordic delicacies - e.g., spruce tip shot, porridge, and flatbread were excellent." - Teija
"Wide selection of everything, and nature was nicely included (spruce shoots, blueberry and lingonberry powders, kale pesto..) Super good potato flatbreads and Karelian pies!" – Jenni
Excellent and high-quality Finnish flavors with a tiny fusion twist. Great service.” –Ville
All hotels may also offer surprising superfoods, such as spruce shoots, birch leaves, and lichen. In city hotels, a touch of luxury is brought by coffee and tea served at the tables and omelets prepared by the chef, which can be filled with smoked reindeer or wild mushrooms. In Lapland hotels, guests are pampered with fresh waffles.
World-famous porridge
One of the cornerstones of the breakfast is the Hurmos oat pearl porridge developed at Hotel Bulevardi, which has even been called the best porridge in the world. It often wins over those who don’t usually care for porridge. The Hurmos porridge is slowly cooked for over four hours and finished with toppings such as berry powders, jams or Finnish squeaky cheese. By popular demand, this beloved porridge is now also available to purchase and enjoy at home.
"Breakfast amazing. The much-hyped porridge indeed is good." – Jaana
"A lot of new interesting things to taste. My favorite, of course, is the long-cooked porridge, simply amazing." – Vessu
"Perfect ten breakfast, especially the porridge which was also gluten-free!" – Tiia
Locality tastes
Local specialties also stand out at breakfast. In Tampere, reindeer black sausage has been brought to the breakfast table, and in Oulu, tar malt bread is served in honor of the city's tar traditions. In Lapland's mountain hotels in Pallas, Hetta, Olos, and Kilpisjärvi, guests enjoy honeycomb from Hillasuo, sourced from the Pallas hotel's own apiary.
Some of the treats come from small producers: from Liepuska in Nilsiä, we get mini cinnamon rolls and blueberry pies, while from Penttilä Farm in Pälkäne, beloved potato flatbreads arrive.
An experience praised by customers
The atmosphere at breakfast is as important as the flavors. The northern vibe is reflected in the decor, warm-hearted service, and hospitality.
“A warm-toned lighting instantly takes the atmosphere to a Lappish campfire, whether a sunny hot day or a heavy rain opens up behind the windows.” - Inka
– People come to breakfast to spend time together, for meetings, or for dates. It is an experience that people expect a lot from these days. We have made our breakfast special by offering a delicious and personalized selection, paying attention to really good service, and adding a touch of Lapland mystique, says Lapland Hotels' head chef Tero Mäntykangas.
On weekends, breakfast is offered for a longer period, allowing it to be enjoyed leisurely in a brunch style.
