OUR ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS HAVE BEEN GRANTED THE ECOCOMPASS CERTIFICATE

For us, environmental responsibility means concrete actions in our own operations. We are committed to saving natural resources and increasing positive environmental impacts. As a demonstration of that, we have been granted the EcoCompass certificate.

Examples of concrete actions we have taken to save natural resources:

• All of our locations use only 100% green electricity, either hydro, wind or bioenergy
• We offer the opportunity to charge hybrid and electric cars in all of our locations (excl. Lapland Hotels SnowVillage)
• We favour local food and localness. At Lapland Hotels Bulevardi, for example, we grow our own herbs, and instead of ending up in biowaste, coffee grounds are utilised as a growing medium for oyster mushrooms, which we serve as a side with delicious omelettes at our breakfast
• We lead the way in the sparsely populated areas in Lapland, where comprehensive recycling points are not a matter of course. We were the first to start recycling biowaste in several of our ski centres and hotels in Lapland.
• We avoid disposable packaging, recycle bottles and used cooking grease from our kitchens, and take actions to minimise food waste
• We use pellet-based heating in our accommodation sites where this form of heating is available
• Almost 100% of our snowmobiling kilometres are covered by the lowest-emission 4-stroke snowmobiles on the market
• Emissions from snowmobile safaris are compensated by supporting projects certified with the Gold Standard
• We are involved in the product development of snowmobiles, where the goal is to make snowmobiles safer and cut their emissions in terms of both noise and exhaust fumes
• We only organise snowmobile safaris on official routes
• We are involved in the Animal Welfare programme
• We have a cooperation agreement on the principles of sustainable nature tourism with Metsähallitus’s Parks & Wildlife Finland unit
• We are a member of Keep Lapland Tidy
• The operating hours of slope lighting in our ski centres have been minimised
• We use oil separation equipment and oil-free air compressors in producing snow for the slopes of our ski centres
• We regularly train our personnel to act responsibly and take safety into account in their daily work
• One of the important selection criteria for our partners is sustainability. Our main partners, such as Comforta, Arla, HKScan and Kiilto, have all identified sustainability as their main theme.
