Sustainability

We monitor the energy consumption of our accommodation operations and take measures to reduce consumption. The electricity we use is 100% CO₂ emission-free. Some of our accommodations use pellet heating. We reduce the use of disposable packaging and sort the waste generated in our operations for recycling at all our locations. We direct items like bottles and kitchen waste fats for recycling.

In our restaurants, we work to reduce food waste. We also use local ingredients. Local products and their availability vary by restaurant and season.

In all hotels (except Lapland Hotels SnowVillage), our customers have the opportunity to charge electric cars. You can check the availability and procedures for electric car charging on the hotel's own page or at the reception.

In the operation of ski resorts, we pay attention to energy use and snowmaking methods. We plan the driving of slope machines and the usage times of slope lighting to reduce energy consumption. In snowmaking, we use oil separation equipment and oil-free air compressors. We are also involved in the Green DMN and Motiva's Energy-Efficient Ski Resort projects.

On Lapland Safaris' snowmobile safaris, we use four-stroke snowmobiles and electric snowmobiles and participate in snowmobile product development cooperation. We focus on marked routes on safaris and use our own bases. We comply with usage rights and safety instructions pertaining to the routes.

For machines, snowmobiles, textiles, and furniture that are taken out of service, we seek reuse or recycling solutions. The used solution depends on the material and its condition.

Our staff makes northern hospitality a reality every day. We support professional skills and development through orientation, training, and career path development. We support staff well-being with employee benefits, and by regularly monitoring job satisfaction and work accidents.

In employment relationships, we comply with applicable laws and collective agreements. In orientation and training, we also address safety and environmental guidelines related to work tasks.

Our safety work includes staff training, operating procedures, internal monitoring and inspections by the authorities. We use the PRO24 safety management system in our accommodation operations. Food safety in our restaurants is also monitored through the authorities’ Oiva inspections.

We are a family company from Lapland that started operations in 1965. We employ local people and also procure products and services from local operators. We participate in regional cooperation, such as route and trail pool activities, and support local associations and projects.

We develop year-round tourism and thus aim to strengthen the vitality of the regions and the possibilities of year-round employment.

Lapland Hotels and its sister companies were awarded EcoCompass certification in 2022. The certification was renewed in 2025. EcoCompass is an environmental management system that helps organisations identify their environmental impacts, set targets and monitor the implementation of measures. EcoCompass is based on the international ISO 14001 standard and is owned by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.

The certification covers all areas of the tourism group’s operations: hotels and restaurants, five ski resorts in Lapland, and Lapland Safaris, the largest provider of organised activities and excursions in the Nordic countries.

Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) is a programme developed by Visit Finland for tourism businesses and destinations. It covers environmental, economic, social and cultural aspects of sustainability. Businesses and destinations that meet the programme’s criteria are awarded the STF label.
