Odin and other figures of Nordic mythology enchant visitors in Kittilä
Press release | Mon Feb 05 09:30:00 2024
This year, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage in Lainio, Kittilä, showcases Nordic mythology. The fantastic exhibits of ice art are inspired by fascinating stories and fierce heroes. SnowVillage, which opened in December, has already had plenty of visitors, and is expected to receive about 80,000 visitors throughout the season.
Maria Astrén, Destination Manager at Lapland Hotels SnowVillage, says that this year’s theme has delighted a lot of people.
“The characters of the Finnish national epic Kalevala have been very popular, as have Odin and Loki, who are part of Nordic mythology. One of the snow hotel’s suites has the forging of the Sampo as its theme and has attracted a lot of interest from our visitors. Of course, our ice slide, which is the longest ever, is also very popular.”
Astrén says that the start of the SnowVillage season has been busy. Both domestic and international visitors are interested in the SnowVillage, and she estimates that the number of visitors for the whole season will be about 80,000.
“Social media is also sure to play a role in the popularity. After all, this is a very photogenic and inspiring place about which people will want to share content on, for example, Instagram.
Odin’s throne in the ice bar
As always, this year’s Lapland Hotels SnowVillage includes the Ice Restaurant and an exhibition room for arctic art with an ice bar, a movie theatre, a snow hotel with different suites to choose from, an ice slide and several spacious halls and lobbies adorned with sculptures. Totalling more than 3,000 square metres, the complex has an accommodation capacity of 12 suites, all made of snow.
“The popular ice bar has, for example, Odin’s throne and a bar counter made of ice that is used for serving drinks,” Astrén says.
Advance reservations required for the Ice Restaurant
To get a table at the Lapland Hotels SnowVillage Ice Restaurant, visitors are asked to always make a reservation in advance.
“The Ice Restaurant offers a three-course dinner menu and also serves corporate guests. Log Restaurant Krouvi offers à la carte dishes in a warm and cosy atmosphere,” Astrén says.
Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is open every day of the week. The hotel, the restaurants and the Ice Exhibition will welcome visitors until 7 April 2024. There is an entrance fee for the Ice Exhibition: €23 for adults and €11 for children (aged 4–14).
