Grains and recipe for the super popular oatmeal can now be purchased at Lapland Hotels’ city hotels

Press release | Fri Dec 15 09:00:00 2023

The oatmeal of Lapland Hotels, the largest private hotel chain in Finland, has become a favourite among breakfast guests, many of whom have asked for its recipe. Now the city hotels have responded to the customers’ wishes, and the grains and recipe needed to make the legendary delicacy can be purchased at the reception. From the beginning of next year, this will be possible in all hotels in the chain, including in Lapland.

Lapland Hotels’ Head Chef Tero Mäntykangas confirms that the oatmeal has garnered praise from customers year after year.

“It is the absolute king of our breakfasts, and people ask for the recipe every day. The porridge is cooked fully in the oven. Its secret lies in the long stewing time, so it is not suitable for cooks who are in a rush.”

Made from whole oat grains, the porridge is slowly stewed for a total of four hours. It is a hearty meal enriched with whole milk, butter and a pinch of salt.

“You can sprinkle a little cinnamon and sugar on top of the finished porridge, or season it to your taste.”
At the moment, the porridge bags are sold at the reception of the city hotels in Helsinki, Tampere, Kuopio, Oulu and Rovaniemi and, from the beginning of next year, all Lapland Hotels, and contain sufficient oat grains for two servings. One bag costs six euros.

No end in sight for the breakfast trend

Finns have become a real breakfast people. At Lapland Hotels, it has been noticed that the breakfast table is increasingly attracting more than just hotel guests. Breakfasts without an overnight stay have been consistently gaining in popularity.

“Breakfasts have become so popular that, in many places, it’s better to book them in advance. It seems that a lot of people are now opting for a long and quiet breakfast instead of a brunch. It may be family and friends gathering around the same table or, for example, people spending some quality time with their spouse, both on weekends and also on weekdays,” says Leena Turunen, Area General Manager of Lapland Hotels.

In addition to porridge, the breakfast selection of Lapland Hotels’ city hotels includes omelettes, pickled Finnish fish and various flavours from Lapland, such as berries, reindeer meat, Lappish cheese and spruce shoot, among other things.

“Customers already know to expect genuine Lapland flavours and a peaceful atmosphere from us at every encounter. We meet these expectations in all meals, from breakfast to dinner,” Mäntykangas says.
