– silent and emission-free snowmobiles make it possible to experience the peace of Lapland in a new way
This winter, customers of the experience service company Lapland Safaris will be among the first in Finland to experience the nature of Lapland on emission-free and almost silent electric snowmobiles. Tourists can book electric snowmobile safaris at Lapland Safaris' online store from 19 September onwards, but they have also attracted huge interest from tour operators in advance.
“We will offer electric snowmobile safaris in Rovaniemi and Luosto in the coming season. The demand has already been high, and international tour operators in particular are really excited about this option. The introduction of electric snowmobiles and the construction of a charging infrastructure are significant investments for us in sustainability and in the future as well,” says Rami Korhonen, CEO of Lapland Safaris.
In the coming winter, Lapland Safaris' repertoire in Rovaniemi and Luosto will have fully electric snowmobile safaris, such as hut tours or the northern lights tours, but customers will have the opportunity to exchange a four stroke engine snowmobile for an electric snowmobile also in some of the other tours.
“It will be interesting to see how customers receive the new snowmobiles. They are easy to use, but cannot yet be utilised on longer safaris. According to the manufacturer, a fully charged snowmobile can run for about 50 kilometres and its maximum speed is 60 km/h in ideal conditions. It is also not possible to pull a sled with electric snowmobiles for the time being.”
Electric snowmobiles for new areas in the future?
Snowmobiles for Lapland Safaris are delivered by Uncharted Society, backed by the world's biggest recreational product manufacturer, Canadian Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP). The machine in question is an electric Lynx Adventure Electric -a snowmobile model designed specifically for guided safari tours.
“We have been involved in the development of this snowmobile model together with BRP from the beginning. BRP Finland is an important partner for us, as our current, very low-emission and safe four stroke engine snowmobiles also come from them,” Korhonen continues.
Korhonen believes that using electric snowmobiles can open up new opportunities for experiences in Lapland.
“When riding on almost silent snowmobiles, Lapland’s peace and soundscape are more present. In the future, we may also be able to take our customers with electric snowmobiles to areas in the wilderness that we previously had no access to.
