Lapland Hotels SnowVillage’s ice bar, inspired by Santorini, delights a record number of visitors and even Greek media

Located close to Ylläs, in the Lainio area of Kittilä, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage will transport visitors this winter to enjoy the world’s most famous sights and travel destinations, from Buckingham Palace to Mount Rushmore. An ice bar, inspired by Santorini, has attracted special attention and was even noticed by Greek media outlets. The Arctic display of skill opened in December, immediately attracting a record number of visitors to admire the ice art.
Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is re-built every winter with a changing theme. During the winter season 2022–2023, visitors get to travel around the world as SnowVillage presents well-known destinations and attractions from different parts of the world.
“The journey to unique ice art starts naturally from Helsinki Railway Station. Our visitors get to experience the Louvre ice pyramid, Buckingham Palace, the stone temple of Petra as well as Mount Rushmore. In addition to Finnish tourists, we welcome plenty of international visitors, and we wanted to take them into consideration when selecting the locations,” says Maria Astrén, SnowVillage Destination Manager for Lapland Hotels.
Last December was busier at SnowVillage than ever before. In addition to Finnish day-trip tourists, SnowVillage attracts especially Central-Europeans, and this year there have also been plenty of Americans. The Finnish-American influencer couple Jasmin and Tuomas Timisjärvi also visited SnowVillage for the first time, invited by Lapland Hotels. They were delighted by the skilfully crafted ice sculptures and the Lapland atmosphere.
“We were very impressed with the sculptures’ level of detail. All of the travel destinations and sights were captured fantastically. Our visit was crowned by our first ever experience of the northern lights,” the influencers say.
Over 3,000 square metres of one-of-a-kind snow designs
As always, this year’s Lapland Hotels SnowVillage includes the Ice Restaurant and an exhibition room for arctic art, with an ice bar, a movie theatre, a snow hotel with different suites to choose from, an ice slide and several spacious halls and lobbies adorned with sculptures. The overall area is more than 3,000 square metres.
“This year, our popular ice bar is fashioned after the Greek island of Santorini, which attracted even the attention of Greek media outlets. Interest sparked after a Greek employee of ours presented the bar in Greek on social media,” says Astrén.
In addition to beverages from the ice bar, visitors to Lapland Hotels SnowVillage can enjoy food from the ice restaurant by booking in advance.
The Ice Restaurant offers a three-course dinner menu and also serves corporate guests. To get a table at the Ice Restaurant, visitors are asked to make a reservation in advance. Log Restaurant Krouvi offers à la carte dishes in a warm and cosy atmosphere.
Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is open every day of the week. The hotel will be open to guests until 3 April, and the restaurants and the Ice Exhibition welcome visitors until 10 April. The entrance fee to the Ice Exhibition is €19 for adults and €11 for children (aged 4–14).
