Lapland Hotels SnowVillage opening its doors for the 20th time in December
Press release | Fri Nov 12 14:02:00 2021
Lapland Hotels SnowVillage located next to Ylläs in Lainio, Kittilä, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this winter. This attraction, well-known domestically and internationally, charms visitors with its skilled snow and ice art. The anniversary will be celebrated by inviting visitors to take a peak into the future and travel all the way into outer space. This arctic winter favourite will open its doors to day visitors on 16 December 2021.
The futuristic theme of the winter season 2021–2022 guides Lapland Hotels SnowVillage visitors to the big, wide world of sci-fi productions, future vehicles and robotics. The sculptures built from ice and snow are modern, clean-lined art pieces, and the blue-white shades finish their photographic style.
“During this anniversary, we want our visitors to think about the future of tourism. We will build, for example, a railway station and space ship of the future in Lapland Hotels SnowVillage. The most popular sculptures from past years will also make a comeback – to the delight of many,” says Janne Pasma, Production Manager at Lapland Hotels SnowVillage.
Construction starts in the first week of November
This season, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage offers, for example, a 100-seat ice restaurant and an exhibition room for arctic art, including an ice restaurant, ice bar, movie theatre, snow hotel with different kinds of suites, ice slide and several spacious lobby areas with sculptures.
“A total of approximately 40,000 cubic metres of snow and 250,000 kilograms of ice will be used in the construction of SnowVillage. It’s not a quick process to build something of this magnitude, but we have launched the project already in the first week of November this year. This magnificent outcome will be achieved with the help of 35 ice and snow builders,” says Tomi Kurtakko, Technical Director at Lapland Hotels SnowVillage.
Lapland Hotels SnowVillage will open its doors to day visitors on 16 December 2021 and accommodation will be available starting from 20 December 2021. There is an entrance fee to the SnowVillage, which will be open every day until 3 April, and the restaurant services until 10 April. Learn more here
