Lapland Hotels SnowVillage recreates the world’s best-known attractions in snow and ice in Kittilä, Finland

Press release | Thu Oct 13 13:02:00 2022

Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is a unique destination on a global scale, built for the 21st time this winter in Kittilä, Finland, next door to the Ylläs ski resort. Built from scratch every year, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage makes visitors fall in love with its stunning snow art and yearly themes. This winter, the theme is tourist attractions and destinations from around the world. The arctic winter favourite will open its doors to day visitors on 19 December 2022.

The SnowVillage of winter 2022–2023 will take visitors on a trip around the globe. Built from snow and ice, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage will present well-known destinations and attractions from different parts of the world.

As the pandemic put people’s winter travel dreams on hold for a couple of years, Lapland Hotels SnowVillage wanted to bring popular tourist attractions into one arctic experience.

“Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is a well-known attraction among both Finnish and international tourists. We are currently in the process of designing snow and ice art to recreate famous attractions and a couple of wild cards from around the world for our visitors. This winter, everyone can become Phileas Fogg and travel around the arctic world at Lapland Hotels SnowVillage,” says Technical Director Tomi Kurtakko.

Over 3,000 square metres of one-of-a-kind snow designs

As always, this year’s Lapland Hotels SnowVillage includes the Ice Restaurant and an exhibition room for arctic art, with an ice bar, a movie theatre, a snow hotel with different suites to choose from, an ice slide and several spacious halls and lobbies adorned with sculptures.

Totalling more than 3,000 square metres, the complex has an accommodation capacity of 12 snow suites. The construction of the Lapland Hotels SnowVillage will start in early November if the weather permits.

“The temperature must drop below zero before we can start working on the load-bearing structures. To prepare for this season, we have stored around 200,000 kilograms of ice through the summer and have around 10,000 cubic metres of snow waiting in our snow storage pile. We will be using snow guns to make an additional 30,000 cubic metres of snow. The construction project will be carried out by a team of 50 professionals,” Kurtakko explains.

Lapland Hotels SnowVillage will open its doors to both day visitors and overnight guests on 19 December.

“The Ice Restaurant offers a three-course dinner menu and also serves corporate guests. Visitors are asked to make a reservation in advance to get a table at the Ice Restaurant. Log Restaurant Krouvi offers à la carte dishes in a warm and cosy atmosphere,” Kurtakko says.

Lapland Hotels SnowVillage is open every day of the week. The hotel will be open to guests until 3 April, and the restaurants and the Ice Exhibition welcome visitors until 10 April. There is an entrance fee for the Ice Exhibition: €19 for adults and €11 for children (aged 4–14).
