The weekly winter programme at Lapland Hotel Sirkantähti ensures that you will enjoy nature’s serenity, new experiences, good times with others, and the stories of Lapland! All programmes take off from Lapland Hotel Sirkantähti under the Holiday Host’s leadership and return to the same site at the end of the experience.

The services are provided in Finnish and English. Children (7-14 yrs) can participate in the programmes for half price. This weekly programme is valid from 7 January to 19 April 2013, weather permitting. Please sign up at the reception desk or with the Holiday Host by 4 p.m. on the previous day; at the same time, you can order a picnic package (sandwich on a roll or rye bread, fruit, juice and a chocolate bar) for the trip for only €7.50. We reserve the right to make changes.

‘Welcome to Levi’ gathering

The Holiday Host welcomes hotel guests to Levi. Have a warm cup of coffee while the Holiday Host fills you in on all the weekly programmes and events at Lapland Hotel Sirkantähti and the surrounding area.

The gathering is free of charge.

12 noon-2 p.m.

Kicksled tour of the village

Take a kicksled outing along Könkääntie road to Kätkä cottage area. Along the way, the Holiday Host will provide tips on improving your kicksled technique while telling about the village of Sirkka and life in Lapland in general. At the end of the trip, everyone will share in a nice, hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate at Sirkantähti.

Price: €20/adult, €10/child, includes the kicksled rental and coffee / hot chocolate.

12 noon-4 p.m.

Free slalom tour (18 February – 18 April 2013)

This programme is meant for slalom skiers who are capable of downhill skiing under varying conditions. The outing is led by one of the ski instructors from Levi Ski School.

How about giving snowshoeing a try?

The Holiday Host will teach you the ins and outs of snowshoeing. The excursion participants will get to enjoy the peaceful winter forests, the breathtaking scenery and, with any luck, a glimpse of reindeer, grouse or hares. This outing is also fun for the family's younger members (min. age 7 yrs).

Snow sculptures at the Lapp hut

Let your inner Picasso loose as you sculpt with snow. Participants are divided into groups and each group sculpts their

own snow design under the guidance of the Holiday Host.

Wednesday

Guided slalom tour

This programme is meant for slalom skiers who are capable of downhill skiing under varying conditions. The outing is led by the Holiday Host from Lapland Hotel Sirkantähti. Participants are required to have their own slalom equipment and ski lift ticket.

The Holiday Host’s olympics at Tähtikota Lapp hut

Enjoy winter sports such as tandem skiing, crate walking, Alp curling, nail hammering and lasso throwing.

These events call for a whole lot of humour, a hint of intellect and great all around team spirit! After the games, we'll gather in the Lapp hut to warm up with some campfire coffee for adults and juice for kids.

Free cross-country skiing tour using the skate skiing technique (20 February – 19 April 2012)

Follow one of the ski instructors from the Levi Ski School on a tour to the nearby ski trails. The instructor will, as necessary, provide hints on how to improve your technique. Cross-country skiing

After warm-up stretches led by the Holiday Host, we head into the wintery woods. Along the way, you can take in the breathtaking scenery and maybe even catch a glimpse of reindeer, grouse or hares.

There will be a break during the trip when you will have the opportunity to rest a moment and enjoy whatever snacks and drinks you bring along.

This outing is suitable for everyone who has mastered the basics of cross-country skiing, even the family’s

younger members (min. age 7 yrs).

Snowshoe outing to Levi Fell

Ride the Levi Express gondola up to the top of Koutalaki, where the group will do some warm-up stretches and then head out to explore the fell landscape. The Holiday Host will advise you on how to attach your snowshoes and to master the snowshoeing technique. On a clear day, you will be able to see many of the nearby fells along the route.

The end stretch of the journey takes us over gently rolling terrain in the shelter of the forest.

This outing is also suitable for the younger members of the family (min. 7 yrs).

Note! Weather: Should the gondola be closed, for example, due to high winds, the outing will take place lower down on the fell.

Ice fishing on Lake Immeljärvi

The Holiday Host will lead the group on a walk to nearby Lake Immeljärvi. There, you will receive guidance on the secrets of successful ice fishing and preparing your bait. Each person gets a chance to drill an ice fishing hole. The group will also enjoy hot juice and a little snack while waiting for the fish to bite.

This outing is also suitable for the younger members of the family (min. 7 yrs).

A true Lapp ceremony in the Tähtikota Lapp hut

The highlight of your holiday will be a traditional Lapp ceremony! Sit around the open fire in the hut and listen as the Holiday Host tells about Lapland mystique, shamans and the ancient culture of the region. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy traditional joiku singing and drumming.

1. SNOWMOBILE SAFARI TO WILDERNESS

(15:00-17:00) Every day

Come and experience the crisp, frosty winter day by driving through the snow-covered forest by snowmobile! You'll receive driving instructions and safety rules – and then you are ready for adventure. This experience introduces you to the unforgettable Lappish nature as you snowmobile through snowy forests and over frozen lakes. On route enjoy a peaceful break and warm berry juice. Return back to the Safari Club House by snowmobile.

2. SNOWMOBILE SAFARI TO A REINDEER FARM

(10:00–13:00/14:00) Monday, Wednesday, Friday

After the guide gives you snowmobile driving instructions, you'll turn onto the snowmobile track and follow it through the snow-covered nature to a local reindeer farm. Reindeer husbandry is an important livelihood in Lapland. As reindeer are semi-wild animals, they roam free in the woods and forests, and are herded together only twice a year for reindeer round‑ups. At the farm the reindeer owner has a carefully selected group of reindeer which he has trained for sledge‑pulling, and for reindeer races. The reindeer herders will demonstrate how to drive a reindeer sledge, and then it is your turn to take an approximately 1-km ride. Coffee or tea will be served at the farm. After the coffee break, you'll return back to the Safari Club House by snowmobile. DURATION: 3-4 hours

3. FISHING EXPERIENCE

This safari shows you the true Lappish nature. The safari route takes you along frozen lakes and snowy forests. You can enjoy this safari by snowmobile or in a sledge pulled by snowmobile. During the day, you can enjoy the most beautiful scenery around Levi. You also break the ice of a lake and try your luck in ice fishing. An enjoyable Lappish soup lunch with bread and strong Lappish coffee or tea for dessert will be served in a cosy cottage.

4. SNOWMOBILE SAFARI TO THE SNOW VILLAGE

After receiving all necessary clothing and driving instructions, you will set off by snowmobile across changing terrain. On the way you will drive across open lakes, bog lands and through the snowy Lappish forests. Lunch will be served at a wilderness restaurant and you will visit Lainio Snow Village with its beautiful ice and snow sculptures. (This excursion is suitable for children of 15 or over.)

5. HUSKY SAFARI

After receiving all necessary clothing, you will depart by bus to the husky camp for a truly memorable dog sledding experience! CHILDREN:

Children (4-14-year-olds) receive a 25% discount during the period 1 December 2012 – 6 January 2013 and a 50% discount at other times. This discount entitles children to a seat in a sled pulled by a snowmobile driven by the guide. Children over 140 cm in height are allowed to sit on the snowmobile when paying the adult price. Please note that different terms and prices apply to husky safaris.

SAFARI PRICES INCLUDE:

All snowmobile safaris include thermal outfit, guide services in English, each snowmobile shared by two guests taking turns in driving, fuel, traffic insurance (maximum personal liability €980), maintenance and VAT. The driver of a snowmobile has to be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s licence. Solo driving possibility, cost varies depending on the safari, between

Snowmobile safaris are subject to change due to weather conditions. As a responsible safari organiser, Lapland Safaris West Ltd reserves the right to change the routing, pricing and the duration of the excursions without prior notice. Lapland Safaris West Ltd reserves the right to interrupt a safari if a participant is seen as a potential danger to him/herself or to others or is in poor health. Pre-paid safaris will not be refunded.

The driver of the snowmobile is held liable for damages caused to the vehicle. Maximum personal liability €980 per person/snowmobile/accident case.

Pregnant women should not use snowmobiles or sledges pulled by snowmobiles as the vibrations and exhaust fumes may be harmful.

If the programme requires special arrangements (e.g. additional transport), the extra costs will not be covered by Lapland Safaris West Ltd
