Ylläs-Ski - a full-service ski resort

When it comes to the quantity of slopes, the number of slope kilometres, their vertical drop and the sheer variety, Ylläs is Finland’s biggest ski resort, with:

  • 61 slopes
  • 29 lifts
  • longest slope at 3 km
  • vertical drop 463 m

There are two companies operating ski-lifts at Ylläs. Of these, Ylläs-Ski is located on the north side of the fell at Äkaslompolo. Ylläs-Ski forms four huge ski areas.

Varkaankuru was the start of it all 50 years ago. The lift at that time was driven by an old Volkswagen engine. Now Varkaankuru features the long Jokeri and Kuru T-bar lifts on both sides of which are fast, wide slopes as well as plenty of drops for off-piste skiers. The Jokeri coffee bar is also at Varkaankuru.

The family slopes are in a sheltered area beside the forest and are ideally suited for beginners and for children. The surface lifts, called Perhe, Kulkuri and Jokeripokeri, are easy to use and our helpful staff will be on hand to assist first-timers.

The front slopes, as their name suggests, are located right in front of the main Ylläs-Ski service building. The Ylläs lift, Tenava, Ankkuri and Ankkurinappi provide access to very fast and varied slopes and this is also where competitions are held. The service building contains ticket sales, equipment rental and service, the Ski Shop and the slope-side restaurant YlläsPirtti.

Aurinkokuru is our newest slope area which, by itself, comprises no fewer than 11 slopes. The Ylläs Aurinko Express  -  a four person chair lift and the Aurinkosompa surface lift both serve this area. This is also home to Finland’s broadest slope, Lännenleveä, which features a 200 metre safe cross-slope area. The slope-side Café Express is also located at Aurinkokuru.

The Ylläs-Ski ski school provides tuition in all disciplines and organizes group tuition during the season as well as free competitions.

Close to the front slopes is the Lastenpirtti children’s day care centre which is also available outside skiing hours.

You can use the same lift pass on both sides of the fell and with passes valid more than 5 days you also get the opportunity to visit the Lapland Hotels ski resorts of Pallas and Olos. We use the SkiData proximity pass-reading system which works with a Keycard smartcard. You can also pay for cards and lift passes online.

A Ski bus runs from the village of Äkäslompolo to the Ylläs Ski resort and back according to schedule. All passengers must pay for their tickets.
